Chronology of cameras Svensson
Hugo Svensson formed, in 1890, with C.G. Dahlgren a mechanical workshop under the name "C.G. Dahlgren & Co". The company received from F.W. Hasselblad & Co repair orders. In the beginning, they copied Murer & Duroni cameras imported by Hasselblad, but progressively designed and manufactured their own models, all exclusively marketed by Hasselblad. In 1896 the company became Hugo Svensson & Co. From 1902 Svensson & Co made their own catalogues.
The Svensk Express cameras are good quality copies of the Murer’s Express and were made in 10 different configurations, according to the lens, shutter, viewfinders and other features, for different formats, including stereoscopic. These cameras were produced until the early 1930s, and during their lifespan, different model reference numbers were assigned in catalogues from Svensson and other distributors.
This specimen was made in the 1920s and corresponds to Nº 5 (C in other catalogues) for 12 plates in format 9 x 12. The lens is an achromatic f11 with rotating apertures, with pull/push focusing. The rotating shutter delivers speeds in the range 1 to 1/300 sec plus time. It has two brilliant finders and two tripod sockets.
